ZamZam BankS.C is the first bank licensed to operate as a full-fledged Interest-Free Bank in the country shouldering a huge responsibility for enhancing fiscal inclusion in Ethiopia.  To this effect, the Bank would like to retain qualified job applicants for the following vacant posts and invite interested applicants who fulfill the minimum qualifications and work experience listed for the job openings.  

Position 1 Shariah Compliance Officer  

Qualification BA Degree in Economics, Management, Accounting, Law, Islamic Banking & Finance, or other related fields.  

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-  

• Ensure the bank’s operations are carried out biddable with the Shariah values, principles, ethical business practices, the bank policies and procedures within the legal framework and Shariah requirements.  

• Work with the product development team faithfully & examine Shariah aspects as per AAOIFI standards & fatwas for each product before its presentation to the Shariah Advisory Committee( SAC) for decision.  

• Formulate and recommend applicable Shariah risk management policies and guidelines.  

• Act as a Secretary to the Shariah Advisory Committee in a role that includes coordinating meetings, compiling proposal papers, disseminating Shariah decisions to applicable stakeholders, and engaging with applicable parties who wish to seek further deliberations of issues from the Shariah Committee; and  

• Handles any fresh assignments as directed by SAC.  

Core Competency  

• Knowledge of Shariah, which includes study in Usul Fiqh (the origin of Islamic law) or Fiqh Muamalat( Islamic transaction/  marketable law).  

• AAOIFI certification on Shariah governance, accounting, and/ or audit principles and norms is an advantage  

• Applicable backgrounds similar to Islamic Banking & Finance and law, which could support the depth and breadth of the Shariah deliberations.  

• Analytical and research approach and visionary attitude in managing issues.  

• Up-to-date with applicable nonsupervisory requirements, guiding principles, and guidelines in Islamic Finance and Shariah Parameters  

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including verbal and written, with a strong emphasis on report writing and presentation capabilities.  

• Previous experience with Islamic financing products or the financial services sector will be an added advantage.  

• Should be suitable to demonstrate strong proficiency and knowledge in written and verbal Arabic, and English in addition to original languages.

Position 2 Manager, Financial Risk  

Qualification Minimum qualification and work experience Master’s Degree/ BA Degree in Economics, Management, Accounting, or other business-related fields with 5/7 years of banking experience respectively of which 2 years as a senior officer/ Team leader in the Risk Management & compliance area.
