The Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation( ECWC) is a public enterprise established on December 18, 2015, under Council of Ministers Regulation No. 366/2015, with a sanctioned capital of Birr, of which Birr has been paid up in cash and in-kind. The corporation’s establishment was later amended on September 28, 2016, by Council of Ministers Regulation No. 390/2016.
ECWC was formed through the merger of three previously independent public enterprises
• The Ethiopian Road Construction Corporation,
• The Ethiopian Water Works Construction Enterprise, and
• The Ethiopian Prefabricated Building Parts Production Enterprise.
Although the corporation itself was established recently, its roots trace back to the late 1940s and early 1950s, reflecting the long-standing history of the three entities that were combined to form ECWC.
