Ethiopian Human Rights Commission( EHRC)  

Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is looking for qualified candidates to fill the following positions  

Position 1 – Coordinator for Transitional Justice  

Qualifications and Experience  LLM in human rights, transitional justice, conflict studies, peace and security,  philanthropic  law, or other related fields;  

Strong specialized knowledge of  international human rights and/ or philanthropic law principles;  

Experience working in conflict andpost-conflict settings, preferably in Ethiopia/ Africa;  

A minimum of six (6) years practical experience in the applicable field and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in research and analytical work in the context of conflict orpost-conflict  terrain;  

Excellent  logical, communication, and jotting chops including experience in developing strategy documents, training material, specialized guidelines, and public outputs  similar as premonitory and advocacy documents and reports;  

Experience in liaising with different counterparts, facilitating training, consultations, meetings, and workshops;  

Excellent computer skills MS word, excel, power point;  

Excellent Amharic and English communications skills. Knowledge of other original languages is advantageous.  

Main Duties and Responsibilities  

Coordinate EHRC’s work on transitional justice (TJ) including awareness raising, capacity building, premonitory and specialized support,etc.;  

Facilitate the development of a strategy on EHRC’s intervention on TJ as a  public  mortal rights institution (NHRI) including its role, ensuring alignment of planned activities with EHRC’s mandate and overall strategic directions;  Conduct stakeholder mapping to identify applicable actors and their roles in the design and implementation of a victim- centered and human rights biddable TJ policy framework;  

Coordinate consultations on TJ with affected populations in different regions of Ethiopia, and the medication of  labors from the consultations; Coordinate EHRC’s work in conducting sensitization and roundtable meetings on TJ with state bodies, civil society, community- based organizations, and traditional and religious bodies;  

Advise/ support EHRC officers who'll conduct needs assessment for targeted TJ trainings, develop training materials, and deliver trainings to different stakeholders;  

Advise/ support on proven methodologies that advance TJ related work  similar as formation of victims’ groups( associations), community consultations, documentation, and awareness raising;  

Provide specialized support and advice to EHRC on work related to TJ;  

Closely follow updates on TJ including legislative or institutional changes in Ethiopia or in regions, and advise EHRC in light of the changing context and dynamics; and Review key documents which have been translated into original languages for quality assurance and finalization  

Salary Range Gross yearly  payment of ETB 30,907.00- ETB 36,811.00 plus ETB 10,000.00

Housing allowance and ETB 2,200.00 Transport allowance, depending on candidate’s qualification, experience and earning history  

Position 2 – Human Rights Officer (Training Needs Assessment, Training Material Development and Training Delivery)( 2)  

Qualifications and Experience MA/ LLM in Human Rights Law, International Law, Public Law applicable to Human Rights Conflict studies, Studies of Peace and Security. Candidates with Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) but with exceptional experience can be considered.

Computer  knowledgeable.  

Knowledge of Amharic and English is required.

Knowledge of other original languages is advantageous. 4 years of applicable experience for BA/ LL. B and 2 years of applicable experience for MA/LL.M.  

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Engage in the development of data collection tools required to conduct research and needs assessment for transitional justice trainings. Conduct research and needs assessment using applicable tools that will be developed for this particular project, write research and assessment reports. Work in consultation with the Human Rights Education Department’s (HRED) curriculum design team to ensure that research and needs assessment findings inform the development of the transitional justice training materials. 

Develop contextualized transitional justice training manual for different stakeholders including state bodies, civil society organizations(  CSOs), and religious and community leaders.  

Develop promotional, advocacy and awareness raising materials on transitional justice.   

Conduct research and identify means to deliver transitional justice trainings including designing workshops, seminars, conferences,etc.  

Deliver transitional justice trainings for identified groups using the developed materials and resources.  Implement applicable tools, methodologies, and materials prepared by HRED’s curriculum design & material development team.  

Work closely with HRED’s training needs assessment, curriculum design & material development, and human rights education delivery teams to improve the content development project work and ensure that the required quality standards are met. Collaborate with and report to the Office of the Chief Commissioner (OCC) throughout the entire process of designing and implementing trainings on transitional justice, including research and needs assessment, material development, and training delivery. Participate in applicable working group/ committee and staff meetings.  

Submit regular reports on the progress of deliverables to the reporting manager and other applicable staff.  Conduct summative evaluation and prepare training proceedings or reports following trainings.  

Perform other related duties as assigned by the director  

Salary Range Gross yearly salary of ETB 22,989 ETB 27,380.00 plus ETB 7,200.00

Housing allowance and ETB 2,200.00 Transport allowance, depending on candidate’s qualification, experience and earning history
