Embassy of Ireland invites qualified applicants for the following position.  Ireland has enjoyed bilateral relations with Ethiopia since 1994, when its Embassy in Addis Ababa was first opened. Ireland’s engagement in Ethiopia is guided by the Government of Ireland’s general foreign policy, which seeks to promote a more secure, just, fair, and sustainable world. The Public Diplomacy and Communications Officer will report to the Alternate Secretary at the Embassy of Ireland. The role will engage regularly with the Alternate Secretary and all other staff at the Embassy to ensure a whole-of-embassy approach, and actively engage with stakeholders across the Department as well as the countries and international organizations of the delegation.  

Position: PUBLIC DIPLOMACY & COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER  

Essential Requirements candidates must be suitable to demonstrate a University undergraduate level qualification in an applicable field;  Three years’ experience in an applicable field, similar to public relations, marketing, media, business, journalism, event management, content creation, etc.; former work experience in an embassy or international organization is desirable.  

Audio and Audio-visual editorial skills;  

Experience in event management.  

Strong oral and spoken communication skills in English and Amharic. 

Knowledge of other indigenous languages is desirable.  

Thorough understanding of social media and digital communication, and experience in managing and creating content for X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok accounts;  

Strong media project management skills;  

Ability to demonstrate action and attention to detail, and to produce accurate and professional, and strategic messaging under time pressure;  

High levels of innovation and creativity;  

Good interpersonal and networking skills;  Ability to work both independently and as part of a team;  

Understanding of the work of embassies and international organizations, particularly in the development and artistic spheres;  

The successful candidate must have a legal entitlement to live and work in Ethiopia previous to recruitment.  Selection Process  

Depending on the number of applications received, a short-listing of candidates to be called for a specialized assessment and faculty-based interview may be accepted based on the Essential/ crucial Requirements above.  

It's planned that the specialized assessment will be held in late July/ early August.  

It's planned that interviews will be held in early August 2025.  

An alternate interview may be included in the reclamation process; A panel may be set up depending on the class of campaigners.

Periodic Leave Entitlement Annual leave entitlement is 20 working days per annum..   

Gross Salary Base Point of salary scale for grade (€  22,687.20 per annum) paid in original currency. Salaries are paid directly to a bank account;  thus, the successful candidate must have a bank account.
