The International Rescue Committee, one of the world’s largest humanitarian non-governmental organizations, offers relief, recovery, and development assistance to vulnerable individuals and communities across more than 30 countries.
The IRC started its work in Ethiopia in 2000, initially responding to a serious drought in the Somali region.
Currently, the organization supports Ethiopians and refugees in six different regions within the country. It carries out both emergency and development programs in areas such as health, water and sanitation, economic recovery and development, women’s protection and empowerment, education, child protection, and multi-sectoral emergency responses.
Position 1: Environmental Health (EH) Intern
Educational Requirements: The candidate must be a 2025/26 graduate in civil engineering, hydraulic/water resource engineering, or related disciplines.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
• No prior experience required.
• Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Shows commitment to learning and applying humanitarian principles and promoting inclusion.
• Willing to learn Microsoft Office applications with minimal assistance.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Amharic.
Knowledge of a local language is an advantage.

Position 2: Communication Intern
Educational Requirements: The candidate must be a 2025/26 graduate in communication or related fields.

• Willing to learn Microsoft Office applications with minimal assistance.

Position 3: Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Intern
Educational Requirements:
• Candidate must be a 2025/26 graduate in social science fields such as sociology, community development, law, human rights, economics, management, or related disciplines.

• No prior experience required.
• Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Shows commitment to learning and applying humanitarian principles and promoting inclusion.
• Willing to learn Microsoft Office applications with minimal assistance.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Amharic.
Knowledge of a local language is an advantage.

Position 4: Emergency Rapid Response (RRM) Intern
Educational Requirements: Candidate must be a 2025/26 graduate in Disaster Risk Reduction/Management, Humanitarian Studies, Social Sciences, Business Administration, International Development, Finance, Law, Political Science, International Relations, or related disciplines.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
• No prior experience required.
• Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Shows commitment to learning and applying humanitarian principles and promoting inclusion.
• Willing to learn Microsoft Office applications with minimal assistance.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Amharic.
