International Livestock Research Institute( ILRI), Ethiopia 
 The International Livestock Research Institute or ILRI is an international agrarian research institute within the CGIAR – formerly the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research. 
 ILRI’s research is directed at improving food and nutrition security through increased production and access to the beast-source foods; stimulating profitable development and poverty reduction through enhanced livestock value chains and increased productivity; improving mortal health through bettered access to the beast-source foods and a decrease in the burden of zoonotic and foodborne diseases; and managing the adaptation of livestock systems to climate change and mitigating the impact of livestock on the environment. 

Position: Research Officer II – Agricultural Innovation System – Internal/ External 


 The International Water Management Institute( IWMI) seeks to recruit a Research Officer II – Agricultural Innovation System to initiate, provide suggestions for, and monitor the small-scale irrigations( SSI) and agrifood systems scaling partnership to promote private and public sector investments and interventions in Ethiopia. While primarily dedicated to SSI initiatives, it also contributes to colorful ongoing projects, including Solar and irrigation projects, Digital Innovations for a Water Secure Africa( DIWASA), Ukama Ustawi, and other initiatives and bilateral systems. 
 The International Water Management Institute( IWMI) is an anon-profit international research organization, serving a global mandate to improve the management of water and land for food, livelihoods, and nature. IWMI headquarters is located in Colombo, Sri Lanka and one of its sub-regional offices is located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. IWMI is one of the 15 research centers supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research( CGIAR). 
 

Key Responsibilities 
 

Support research on scaling and partnership activities for small-scale irrigation( SSI). Activities include 
 Conducting field data collection, secondary data collection, literature synthesis, interviews, and other forms of research activities; 
 Analyzing data and drafting scientific publications, policy briefs, and specialized reports in the areas of private and public sector’s SSI and agrifood systems scaling interventions; 
 Conducting SSI and agrifood systems stakeholder analysis and mapping, market margin assessment along scaling pathways, private sector financing, and identification of blocking and enabling mechanisms to SSI and agrifood systems scaling; 

Easing the collaboration among partners and researchers to pilot  common data collection and analysis, and monitoring and  assessing of SSI and agrifood systems scaling pathways to document and present lessons learned to sustainably and equitably incentivize uptake; 
 • relating  hookups, policies, and institutional requirements for testing approaches, technologies, and investment propositions that have strong scaling implicit 
 Facilitate collaboration among  mates and researchers for  common data collection, analysis, monitoring, and evaluation of SSI and agrifood systems scaling pathways; 
Under the direction of the project leaders, overseeing the development of SSI scaling pilots and partnerships in Ethiopia, researchers, and external partners; 
Building and maintaining SSI and agrifood systems  spanning dialogue platforms and processes with  public and Indigenous stakeholders and research partners, including the private sector; 
Perform any other related duties as may be required. 
 

Minimum Requirements 
Education 
Master’s degree in Development Economics, mortal Geography, Sociology, or a closely related field applicable to Water coffers Management, Agricultural Development and Agricultural  invention systems and scaling, or similar 
 

Experience 
At least five years of applicable work experience, preferably in areas  similar to scaling agrarian innovation, and facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogues and/ or innovation platforms 
Experience in transforming  exploration into knowledge products for outreach and impact in Ethiopia and wider forms of development policy and practice influence 
 Proven track record in communicating research findings in transnational conferences and other platforms. 
 

Skills 
Ability to facilitate and coordinate multi-stakeholder  hookups in agri-business and irrigation, and gender and youth addiction issues 
Ability to maintain strong external  hookups and alliances in complex institutional environments, including the private sector 
Ability to apply specialized,  profitable, and institutional reasoning to innovation scaling and policy issues in a critical manner 
Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with academic and non-academic stakeholders 
Ability to use statistical  logical techniques

Terms of appointment This is a National Staff (NS) position. The original appointment is for three years. Project Accountant – Internal/ External 
 

Key Responsibilities 
Assist in maintaining project finances, transactions, and contracts, 
Plan, implement, monitor, and report on project financial  operation, 
Monitor project budgets and forecasts, ensuring costs are controlled and deadlines are met, Facilitate and process travel advance, and work advances for staff, consultants, and staff from partner institutions, in 
preparing Travel Authorization (TAs); following up and assisting in the timely settlement of per diem, and work advances, 
 ensuring that they've completed and are accurate in their documentation, checking for accuracy and compliance with CIFOR- ICRAF regulations. 
Ensure payments are processed within a predetermined time after verifying the requests received have sufficient/ applicable supporting  substantiation and are mathematically correct, in compliance with policy and procedures, and have proper authorization, 
Facilitate financial arrangements and payments for project activity-related training, workshops, and others, 
Ensure that all project financial activities are conducted with the approval of applicable project appointees for expense approval and specialized oversight, 
Provide information to applicable staff concerning payments, advances, required documentation, and other financial aspects of the project activity, 
Prepare project yearly cash forecast/ projection and contribute to compiling the country office cash forecast/ projection, 
Assist the  design team in the preparation of the activity budgets and modifications and analyzing variances between budgeted and  factual performance, 
Ensure that all  design financial transactions are recorded accurately into the CIFOR- ICRAF computer accounting system, 
Establish and maintain financial files and ledgers for the project and country office finance. 
Compile yearly, daily, bi-annual, and periodic  fiscal reports of the  design by the donor agreement, 
Liaise with project managers and stakeholders to understand project financial requirements and deliverables, 
Support the country office in yearly and periodic closing processes and the preparation of schedules and applicable reports for the CIFOR- ICRAF country office, 
Prepare and implement management systems for the project’s fixed assets, goods received registry, and vehicle log sheet, 
Support project partners to establish and prepare standard and proper accounting systems including applicable format in compliance with CIFOR- ICRAF procurement and  fiscal regulation, 
Confirm all the outstanding payments, outstanding advances, and partner advances are cleared before the  systems close, 
Support the country office’s internal and external audits by  collecting documentation and providing necessary information, 
Any other duties assigned by the administrator. 
 

Minimum Requirements 
Education 
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance 
Applicable professional certification 
Broad/ technical knowledge of methods, techniques, and processes 
 

Experience 
Five times of professional experience in accounting preferably in a non-profit environment. 

Additional  Skills 

Experience in using account software or ERP systems. 
Ability to work singly driven by a desire to achieve results. 
Excellent computer skills in MS ‐ office applications (Word, Excel). 
Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with partners and colleagues in a multicultural setting. 
Advanced level in English
