Every year, we engage with thousands of students, educators, policymakers, academics, and creative professionals across Ethiopia. Our work focuses on creating opportunities for young people through the following:

Position 1: International Expert Trainer  

About the Making the Transition to English (MTE) Programme  
The British Council is seeking expressions of interest from experienced teacher or teacher-educator trainers to support the Making the Transition to English (MTE) Project in Ethiopia, which is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

The project aims to assist the Ethiopian Ministry of Education, Regional Education Bureaus, and other education sector institutions in improving the transition to English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) for learners in Grades 7 and 8.

The project will focus on:  
- Enhancing teachers' English language proficiency  
- Strengthening teaching and learning methods  
- Establishing sustainable teacher professional development systems  
- Developing national capacity for continuous professional development (CPD)  

A key project goal is to develop:  
- 100 National Expert Trainers (NETs) who will serve as national teacher/teacher educator trainers  
- Over 7,000 transformation coaches who will train and support around 36,000 teachers across Ethiopia  

To achieve these goals, the British Council plans to hire up to six International Expert Trainers (IETs).

Independent Trainer (Non-Permanent Worker – NPW) Assignment  
Location: Ethiopia (with some work conducted remotely from the trainer’s home location)  

Contract Type: Consultancy Agreement (Independent Consultant/NPW)  
English Language Proficiency  
Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia  

Position 2: Arts Project Manager  

Role-Specific Knowledge and Experience  
Essentials  
- A university degree or equivalent in a relevant subject or field  
- Good knowledge and understanding of current trends and practices in at least one segment of the arts and creative industries in the country  
- Experience of working on national arts or creative industry initiatives  
- Experience of managing projects from start to finish and familiarity with project life cycles  
- Experience of managing external stakeholders  
- Experience of using technology in project delivery  
- Strong understanding and experience of supporting monitoring and evaluation  

Desirables  
- Awareness and appreciation of current arts trends and practices in the UK  
- Experience of working on international arts projects  

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia  

Position 3: Project Officer – Non-Formal Education (NFE)  

Education  
- Bachelor’s degree (Desirable)  

Role-Specific Skills  
- Experience of working in a supporting role on programmes or projects  
- Experience in administrative and financial administration  
- Good understanding of basic monitoring and evaluation concepts and their role in effective project management  

Language Requirements: English and Amharic
